PIP – two new resources available

For people who currently claim DLA we have a factsheet about moving from DLA to PIP: Changing from Disability Living Allowance (DLA) to Personal Independence Payment (PIP).

For people making a new claim, or being reassessed, we have a guide: Claiming Personal Independence Payment.

Both of these resources are available to download or to order from the online shop. We are sending sample copies to all branches.

You can now download a revised version of this resource from the website. We have withdrawn the previous printed booklet because it is out of date. Please destroy any remaining copies.

Christmas Lunch

A big thank you goes to all those who were able to attend our Christmas Lunch yesterday at The Park Place Brasserie.

New therapy for 2014 – Reiki

Our new therapy Reiki starts on Tuesday 7th January, first appointment at 10am.  Sessions lasts for an hour.  Donation rates: MS: £12, Carer: £17, Other member: £25.
Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of healing.  It is a natural therapy that gently balances energy and promotes health, well-being and natural healing on every level.  Reiki is a gentle and non-invasive holistic treatment.  It is given whilst lying down on a couch or sitting in a chair/wheelchair through normal clothing.  The practitioner places their hands in a series of different positions above the body encouraging and allowing the energy to flow.  You may experience mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations or nothing at all.
The therapy is being offered by Karen our Tuesday volunteer, she has her own website www.wellbeingtreatments.co.uk.
Please email, ring for appointments.

Changes to Oxygen Session on Tuesdays

From Tuesday 7th January 2015, oxygen sessions will be at 33ft, this is because we are currently running with only a few people on a Tuesday and we have been cancelling some Thursday sessions because no-one is coming in.  I am hoping that putting on another deep session at the beginning of the week will encourage some more people in. New drinking aid

Chris Peacock has developed a news drinking aid with Occupational Therapists and people with MS at the Sutton and Croydon MS Therapy Centre.

It’s called handSteady and looks like a fine bone china cup. Yet it’s 31% lighter, has a large handle for 4 fingers, has a discrete lid to reduce spillages and keep drinks hotter for longer. But most uniquely it has a rotatable handle. This enables gravity to keep the cup upright, it to be tilted with one or two hands with more control despite limited dexterity, and it can be held and used in stable positions despite weakness or tremor.

People with MS have been one of our main group of customers since we launched in July 2012.

He are some of the case-study videos of people with MS using it:
