A letter from our New Chairman

Hello everybody,

As you may have heard, I have taken over as the Chairman of the Centre. I took a bit of persuading, primarily because I was not sure that I could give it the time and the effort required. Given the team we have, in Sue, our fabulous volunteers and all our members, I was convinced that we can do what is needed to do together.

Short term, we have the help of Emma Kahlon, Asda’s Community Life Champion, who is putting a great deal of her time into co-ordinating fund raising for some gym equipment. We will have a functioning gym with a Moto-med and a standing frame and other equipment that some of you will be familiar with from time spent at the NOC or OXSRAD. I have no time scale for that yet, we will keep you posted. Sue has a new blog to match our new website. The blog will be used for information etc and will be emailed to everyone who wants it. Information will be posted on the board inside the front door and on the coffee table.

Member recruitment is key to us. We have the website as mentioned, a new leaflet is being produced and we shall be promoting ourselves more extensively than before.

Fund raising is more important than ever, (ask our treasurer!). We have been a bit lax in the last few years and intend to push things a bit more.

I am not thinking about specific longer term goals as the moment, but I have some ideas, which will see the light of day if they prove to be any more than wishful thinking!

All this can be helped by all of us. I urge you to do what you can, nobody will commit you to things you cannot do, you will not be coerced onto the committee, but every little helps (sorry Asda).

There is a wealth of talent among us, our families and our friends and I would like to tap into it. Any skill or time that someone you know can spare will be taken and used to great benefit. Have a think and let me know. I am happy to answer emails and have suggestions and moans (not many, please).

Our centre has potential and it needs to be used.

Thanks

David
